Jewellery Care

Proper care and maintenance will help ensure the longevity and beauty of your jewellery pieces.

Top Tip: Put on last, take off first. Put your jewellery on after applying makeup, lotions and perfumes. Remove first before engaging in activities that could cause damage.

STERLING SILVER

~ Avoid exposure to chemicals: Remove sterling silver jewellery before using  perfumes, lotions or hairspray to prevent tarnishing.

Store properly: Store your sterling silver pieces in a cool, dry place, ideally in an airtight container or tarnish-resistant pouch to minimize exposure to air and moisture.

Regular cleaning: Clean your jewellery with a soft, lint-free cloth to remove dirt and oils after each wear. For more thorough cleaning, use a silver specific polish or a mixture of soap and water. Gentle scrub with a soft brush, rise and pat dry. Alternatively, we offer a cleaning service, please get in touch to find out more.

24CT KEUM-BOO GOLD and GOLD PLATING

Gentle cleaning: Use a soft, non-abrasive cloth to gently clean your piece. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials that could damage the plating.

~Avoid moisture: Remove gold plated jewellery before swimming, showering, or participating in rigorous activities to prevent moister from damaging the plating.

~ Storage: Store your gold plated pieces in individual pouches or compartments to prevent scratching and minimize exposure to air. Keeping pieces separate also prevents them from rubbing against each other and causing wear to the plating.

With time: the keum-boo and the gold plating will wear off. Some pieces can be re-plated, please get in touch to find out more.

SOLID GOLD

~ Routine cleaning: Clean solid gold jewellery with a mild soap and warm water solution. Scrub with a soft brush to remove dirt. Dry thoroughly with a soft cloth before storing.

Polishing: Use a jewellery polishing cloth designed for gold to maintain its shine. Avoid using abrasive materials that could scratch the surface.

~ Safe storage: Store solid gold separately to prevent scratching.

Advice: Whilst you can shower and sleep in your solid gold pieces, we recommend keeping them away from any harsh cleaning products or perfumes.

FRESH WATER PEARLS

Handling: Fresh water pearls are delicate so handle with care!

Avoid chemicals: Perfumes, lotions, hairspray and other chemicals will erode the outer layer of the pearl and strip it of its shine. If you need a pearl replaced, please get in touch.

 BRASS

Avoid moisture: Remove brass jewellery before swimming, showering, or any activity that exposes it to excessive moisture. Moisture can accelerate tarnishing and corrosion.

Minimize exposure to chemicals: Keep your brass pieces away from harsh chemicals, lotions, perfumes, and cleaning agents. These substances can cause discolouration and damage.

Cleaning and polishing:

  • Regular cleaning: Gently clean your brass pieces with a soft, lint-free cloth after each wear to remove dirt, sweat and oils.
  • Soap and water: For deeper cleaning, mix soap with lukewarm water. Gently scrub your brass jewellery using a soft brush. Rinse thoroughly and dry. Alternatively, you could also use toothpaste instead of the soap.
  • Lemon juice and baking soda: Create a paste using lemon juice and baking soda. Apply the paste to your brass jewellery, scrub gently, and rinse with water. Dry thoroughly to prevent water spots.  Alternatively, we offer a cleaning service, please get in touch to find out more.

Storage and Care:

  • Anti-tarnish strips: Place anti-tarnish strips or silica gel packs in your jewellery box to help absorb moisture and slow down tarnishing.
  • Sealable plastic bags: Store your brass pieces in a sealable plastic bag to minimise exposure to air and moisture when not in use.
